$5 Friday Pick: Leilani Farm Sanctuary

We’ve donated $16,702
to farmed animal rescue and advocacy organizations
on $5 Fridays.
That’s amazing! Let’s keep it going!

$5 FRIDAY PICK #21
LEILANI FARM SANCTUARY
HAIKU, HAWAII

This all-volunteer refuge for animals is a winner. They rescue goats, rabbits, cats, turkeys, sheep, cows, pigs, ducks, deer, and chickens on an 8-acre farm. They have a powerful humane education program promoting a plant-based lifestyle with community outreach and a steady stream of 3,000 visitors per year, including many tourists. The $5 Friday review found selfless volunteers working tirelessly, a strong social media following, animals receiving the medical care they need, clean financials serving approximately 300 animals on an annual budget of only $140,000, and an outstanding and experienced leadership team. I highly recommend supporting Leilani Farm Sanctuary.

Why should you donate $5 to Leilani Farm Sanctuary? Here are five adorable reasons.

    1. Me, too! 🙂

Sigh..wish I was there right now…I never thought I’d be jealous of where donkeys and chickens get to live! Do they rescue humans by chance? 🙂

“Leilani Farm Sanctuary, located on a lush 8-acre farm in Haiku, Maui, is home to donkeys, goats, chickens, cats, deer, rabbits, ducks, pigs, deer, sheep, tortoises, guinea pigs, geese, ducks, turkeys, a cow, and a dog.

There are rolling green pastures for goats and donkeys to graze, hundreds of trees for the cats to climb, and jungle environments for the chickens to explore and a shady garden for the rabbits to enjoy. “

      1. p.s. Have you heard of this website, Andrew?
        http://kindnessblog.com/

They take submissions and I think any of your recent posts about your father would be an excellent choice if you might be interested:
        http://kindnessblog.com/about/write-for-kindness-blog/

        “Preferred Topics and Subjects ~
Kindness, compassion, mindfulness, forgiveness, family, love, parenting, wisdom, grief, humanity, friendship, homelessness, life-lessons, morality, gentleness, non-violence, humility, loss, meditation, random acts of Kindness (RAOK), mental health and gratitude.”

“We’d be honored to have you write for our site and interact with our great audience. This will not only enrich this blog, but also enable you to spread the treasure trove of knowledge and life experiences that you possess, through your ideas. Our blog will amplify your thoughts for readers within our reach and also give our website a boost. ”

As far as that last sentence, a submission by you on their website could also possibly be a great way to get new readers to your own blog and introduce them to animal issues, veganism, etc.
        🙂

    2. Just saw this; sorry to be late on it; hope my $10 can still be matched!

Also signed up for a recurring $10/month for this Leilani Farm Sanctuary’s wonderful work! (Though I’ve been vegan for 5 years, I’m just starting Melanie Joy’s, “Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism”, and it’s breaking my heart all over again for all those sentient fellow creatures enslaved in factory farms…)

    1. Hello Andrew. Could you sneak one more $5 matched donation in for Leilani Farm Sanctuary? It and Laurelee is near and dear to my heart. I live in Massachusetts now. I didn’t see the post until late last night and fell asleep while in the middle of trying to donate, so I missed the deadline!

  17. Leilani Farm Sanctuary received another $10,000+ in donations from our $5 Friday. We are thrilled for them and so grateful to everyone for their support. Our total now exceeds $15,000 for the day. A new update will be posted once the final numbers are calculated. Thank you.
