“Don’t Teach a Man to Fish”
The Remaking of a Proverb
by Andrew Kirschner
Give a man a fish and he will eat mercury for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he will eat until the ocean is empty.
Teach a man fishing is cruel and unnecessary
and that fish feel pain and suffer
and he will lead a more compassionate life,
oceans will survive,
and fish will live their natural lives.
This activity is barbaric, and has no place in a civilized society.
Thank you for making that connection Charlene.
Wonderful update of that problematic proverb, Andrew!
Teach a person that there are humane, healthful, environmentally responsible alternatives to using animals as food and all will benefit. Teach others to be vegan and change the world for the better.
Well said Andrew, well said!
Thank you.
Brilliant. Poetry reinvented. Poetry, as an art form, is meant to expand our awareness and challenge our assumptions.
Very kind of you. Thank you.
